Optional Coverages
Damage Waiver
In most cases, Damage Waiver is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).
Damage Waiver reduces the amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage if the vehicle is damaged (or the amount you pay to replace any keys, accessories or vehicle documents that are lost, stolen or damaged).
The amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.
Super Damage Waiver (SCDW)
An excess reduction product which reduces your damage waiver excess to zero with a valid police report on cars or vans. (or, if higher, the amount shown on your Rental Agreement Form).
Theft Protection waiver (TP)
In most cases, Theft Protection waiver is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).
Theft Protection waiver reduces the amount you pay if the vehicle is stolen during the rental period.
The amount you pay will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.
Super Theft Protection
Documents from the vehicle must not be left unattended inside the vehicle, as doing so is legally prohibited and considered a misdemeanour. The Croatian law requires the driver to carry a valid driver's license or a certificate confirming the submission of an application for its issuance, a vehicle registration certificate, an insurance policy, and a European accident report. The driver must present these documents upon request by a police officer.
Damage/Loss/Repair Processing Fee
If the vehicle has a scratch or dent larger than 15 cm, you must get a police report, no matter what damage waiver you have.
If there is no valid police report, your damage waiver will not apply.
If you have a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and the vehicle is damaged, you may be charged up to the excess amount shown in your rental agreement, plus a damage processing fee of EUR 60.00 (taxable) and on the ground vehicle idle time in amount of EUR 60.00 (taxable).
If you have Theft Protection (TP) and the vehicle is stolen or lost due to your fault or that of any additional drivers or passengers, you may be charged up to the excess amount shown in your rental agreement, plus a processing fee of EUR 60.00.
The customer is liable for the full value of the rented vehicle if Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not purchased.
If the customer does not have CDW included in the booking the deposit amount which will be held on his credit card is up to EUR 5,000.00.
You can reduce the excess by purchasing an excess reduction product.
If the keys, any accessories, or vehicle documents are damaged or lost due to your fault or that of any additional drivers or passengers, you may be charged an amount ranging from EUR 200.00 to EUR 600.00. (taxable)
Credit Card Policies
What payment cards do we accept?
We accept:
- American Express (excluding American Express Traveller's Cheque cards)
- Visa credit
- MasterCard credit
- Avis-issued charge cards / voucher
Each rental driver should present a valid credit card under his name. Security deposit is required for all vehicle categories. The security deposit amount release depends on the credit card provider's terms, Rental Viribus d.o.o. is not responsible for releasing the security deposit.
We don't accept Diners cards, Visa Electron cards, Maestro cards, V-Pay cards, Cirrus cards, JCB cards even if they carry the Visa or MasterCard logo or any other cards not listed above.
We also do not accept cash.
Unless confirmed otherwise, the amount of the pre-authorisation taken on pick-up of the rental vehicle is calculated as follows:
The vehicle rental price + preauthorization amount which depends on the vehicle group (range between EUR 1,100.00 - 5,000.00) MINUS Any sum you have already paid when making a “Pay Now” booking.
* The "vehicle rental price" includes the vehicle rental cost and all optional extras you’ve requested, calculated at the start of the rental based on the intended length of the rental. For the avoidance of any doubt, any “Pay at Location” amount you owe in relation to the vehicle rental (including any optional extras) will be included as part of the pre-authorisation and will be charged to you at the end of the rental (using the card provided for the purposes of the pre-authorisation, unless agreed otherwise).
The pre-authorisation amount can be used in case we have to charge you at the end of the rental for any of the following:
i. costs to refuel the vehicle (where relevant).
ii. additional rental charges in circumstances where you fail to return the vehicle or any optional extras at the end of the agreed rental period or to the agreed return location.
any additional charges or fines incurred relating to your use of the vehicle (for example: any traffic fine or speeding ticket)
iii. any additional charges or fines incurred relating to your use of the vehicle (for example: any traffic fine or speeding ticket)
iv. costs incurred because of exceeding any relevant mileage restrictions.
v. any additional charges that were caused due to negligence.
vi. costs of the damaged vehicle
If the pre-authorisation doesn't cover all your charges, we'll ask you to pay the extra amount.
When making a reservation for a certain high value vehicle, we may require you to provide us with two payment cards for the purposes of the pre-authorisation. If that is the case, it will be confirmed when making a booking.
Premium location fee - please note that when you are picking or returning the vehicle to the airport, the airport surcharge of 10% will be added to the total amount due.
Debit Card Policies
Debit cards are accepted only if the debit card can be used for pre-authorisation before we release the vehicle to you.
Drivers License
In Croatia, all drivers must bring their valid driving licence with them.
If any of the following applies:
- their driving licence was issued in Europe,
- their driving licence was issued in a non-European country (except for customers from the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, and United States), or
- their driving licence was issued in a non-roman alphabet language like Arabic, Greek, Russian, Hebrew, or Japanese,
and we cannot confirm with certainty the details included within the driving licence, the driver will also need to provide either an international driving licence or an official English translation, by a notary, of their driving licence. If this might apply to you, please contact us (prior to your pickup date) as we would be pleased to confirm if an international licence or official translation will be required.
We do not accept digital driving licenses.
Minimum licence requirements
All drivers must have held their licence for at least 3 years from the date of pick-up.
If a licence does not show the driver has held it for the minimum period, then they must provide evidence, such as:
- previous driving licences; or
- a letter from their driving licence authority stating that they have held it for this minimum period.
Public Liability and Property Damage
Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country. Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance. Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles. The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental. Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.
Additional Driver Policy
Only drivers approved and listed on the Rental Agreement Form are permitted to drive the vehicle. You must not allow anyone else to drive it.
All additional drivers must meet our age, driving licence, and ID requirements. Please note that additional driver surcharges may apply.
If we approve any additional drivers, all related fees and surcharges will be listed on your Rental Agreement Form.
You are responsible for all costs incurred during the rental, whether by you or any additional drivers. It is your responsibility to ensure that all approved drivers read and understand the terms of the Rental Agreement before driving the vehicle.
An Additional Driver Fee of EUR 10.80 (taxable) is charged per day, per driver. This fee applies for up to 10 days, covering rentals of up to 28 days.
Age Requirements
Minimum driver age restrictions
When you make a reservation, you'll be told if there are any minimum age restrictions for the vehicle you request.
If you're not sure, please check your booking confirmation email or contact our customer support team.
Young driver surcharge
If you or any additional drivers are under the age of 25 at the time of vehicle pick-up, a young driver surcharge will apply to each driver.
The cost of a young driver surcharge will be built into the price confirmed at booking stage.
If you add an additional driver onto the rental at pick up, you may be charged a young driver surcharge (you will be asked to agree to this and is likely to be EUR 10.80 per day. (taxable)
Maximum driver age restrictions
When you make a reservation, you'll be told if there are any maximum age restrictions for the vehicle you request. If you're not sure, please check your booking confirmation email or contact the reservations team.
In most cases there is no maximum driver age restriction. If you are renting with one of our affiliates listed in 1. (Rental Provider) there may be a maximum driving age set at either 75 or 80 years of age for insurance reasons.
Fuel Policy
Returning the vehicle
Unless you selected a different refuelling option (see below), the vehicle should be returned with the same amount of fuel as when it was collected usually a full tank, as indicated on the fuel gauge.
It is recommended to refuel as close as possible to the return location on the day of return and keeping the receipt as proof. If the fuel level is lower than it was at the time of pick-up and no fuel receipt is provided, a refuelling fee may be applied.
Refuelling Fee:
If the vehicle is returned with less fuel than required and no receipt is presented, a refuelling charge of 57.60 EUR (taxable) may be added to your invoice.
Refuelling options:
Fuel Up Front option - full tank of fuel is paid in advance, based on the manufacturer's stated fuel tank capacity for your vehicle, plus our refueling service cost. You may then return the vehicle with any amount of fuel remaining, even if the tank is nearly empty, as long as the engine is still running.
Pay on Return - the fuel is paid according to the factory-installed fuel gauge. The fuel level is rounded down to the nearest eighth (1/8) of a tank when calculating the price.
If you return the vehicle with a lower fuel level than at pick-up, the customer will be charged the local Avis fuel rate, which is generally higher than the price at local gas stations.
Pay on Return will apply if you:
- didn't buy Fuel Up Front
- didn't return the vehicle with a full tank.
ID Requirements
Do I need to bring my driving licence with me?
Yes. All drivers must bring all parts of their valid driving licence with them. The driving licence documents must be valid for driving the rented vehicle in Croatia.
Is there a minimum length I must have held my licence for?
Driver/renter must posses a driving licence for at least one year.
ID requirements
Do I need to bring proof of identification?
Yes, you must bring:
- The credit card that was used to make your booking or another credit card under your name
- Photo ID featuring a recognisable photo taken in the last 10 years. We will accept your passport or driving licence if it contains a photo, a national identity card or any other form of government-issued identification.
Other requirements
Will I need to give a pre-authorisation or pay a security deposit?
Yes, you must give us a pre-authorisation on your credit card before we release the vehicle to you. A pre-authorisation holds money in your account. For customers who are only taking the basic collision damage waiver but not the additional option to reduce the excess at the time of rental, we will take authorisation for the excess amount (this varies based on the size of the vehicle from 1125.00 to 5375.00 EUR) from the customers credit card.
What do I need to do to give a pre-authorisation or security deposit?
You'll need to give us a payment card in your own name that has enough money available on it. You can find more information on the payment cards accepted by us under the "Payment Options" section in this document.
Important Information
Amended return station
If the car is returned to a station other than the one agreed at the time of Check Out and noted in the Rental Agreement, an amended return fee of EUR 55.20 (taxable) will be charged for the additional fleet disposition cost.
If the customer returns the vehicle to a different location without notifying the rental station where the vehicle was collected, the company Rental Viribus reserves the right to take legal action against the current user of the vehicle.
During office hours
If you are late, we will hold your reservation for up to 24 hours. However, the rental will be subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Reservations must be made at least 4 hours before the scheduled vehicle pick-up time. After this period, we cannot guarantee vehicle availability.
Ferry fee
A ferry fee applies to all customers who intend to drive the vehicle on the islands.
The fee is EUR 7.50 per day (taxable).
Miscellaneous Information
Do you offer a 'meet and greet' service?
No, unfortunately we are unable to offer a 'meet and greet' service in Croatia.
Can I pick up the vehicle outside your normal opening hours?
A late arrival fee will apply as follows:
During the winter season, for arrivals after 21:00.
During the high season, for arrivals after 23:00.
The fee for MLA (Meet late arrival) is EUR 60.00 (taxable). The following information is needed when you make your booking for the MLA:
- Flight number
- Contact telephone number
- Credit card details
It is strictly forbidden to smoke in the vehicles. If we believe anyone has smoked in the vehicle during the rental period, a special dry-cleaning charge will apply.
Fines and charges
You are responsible for all fines and charges issued because of you or your additional drivers using the vehicle. Fines and charges could include:
- All parking fines or charges
- Toll charges
- Towing charges
- Clamping costs
- Traffic fines or charges
- Speeding fines
- And any other charges or fines
If a fine or charge is sent to us because you have not paid a charge or complied with the law, we will take payment for:
- Our administration fee of 42.00 EUR for each fine or charge issued, which will be charged in the currency of the country where the fine occurred
- Plus, the fine or charge if we must pay it
- Cleaning fee
If the interior of the vehicle is especially muddy, dirty, stained or smelly, and our standard cleaning procedure will not fix it, you will be charged a Specialist Cleaning Charge in amount of 75.00 EUR.
If you do not cancel your booking before the reservation date and time shown in booking and fail to pick up your vehicle within 24 hours from
that time, the non-cancellation fee will be applied. Depending on the country of rental, this fee will be in the amount of 65.00 EUR.
Are there any roads or zones where I need to pay a fee before I can enter?
Yes, there are toll roads and toll bridges which require you to pay a fee if you wish to use them. If you do not pay these charges before you use such roads or bridges, you will incur a fine, which you will be responsible for paying.
Can I smoke in the vehicle?
No, you are not allowed to smoke in the vehicle.
I have been caught speeding, or I didn’t pay a parking charge; what will I have to pay?
You are responsible for all fines and charges issued as a result of you or your additional drivers using the vehicle. If a fine or charge is sent to us because you haven’t paid a charge or complied with the law, we will take payment for:
Our processing fee of 33.00 EUR (taxable) for every fine or fee that has been issued, and
The fine or charge itself – if we have to pay it
I parked the vehicle at the entrance to a property or in a private parking space without authorisation. Will I be charged for the costs that ensue?
Yes, if you parked the vehicle at the entrance to a property or in a private parking space without authorisation and you are charged with trespass by the person affected, you must compensate us the ensuing reasonable costs of proceeding, in addition to a processing fee of 33.00 EUR (taxable).
I’ve left the interior of the vehicle very dirty and made it smell. Will I be charged to clean it?
Yes, if the interior of the vehicle is especially muddy, dirty, stained or has an unpleasant odour, and our standard cleaning procedure cannot deal with this, you will be charged a Specialist Cleaning Charge of 75.00 EUR (taxable).
What happens if I don’t return the incident report form or European accident form?
If you are involved in an accident, or the vehicle, key, accessory, a vehicle document or an extra is damaged, lost or stolen, you must complete a damage report form and in the case of an accident also the European Accident Statement report form correctly and in full and send it to us as soon as possible, but at the latest within seven days.
If you do not send us the damage report form or the European Accident Statement report form within seven days following the accident, loss or theft, a processing fee for our additional work amounting up to EUR 186.00 (taxable) will be levied, insofar as you are culpably responsible for the fact that we have not received a properly completed damage/accident report form within seven days. The payment of this processing fee does not, however, indemnify you from the obligation to submit to us the properly completed damage report form or the European Accident Statement report form.
LATE RETURN FEE
Unless agreed differently, all customers must return the vehicle and any optional extras at the time/date and location stated on their rental agreement. If the customer believes they will be late; it is in their best interests to request an extension from us. If the customer is then late in returning their vehicle, they must pay for an extra day's rental for the vehicle and any optional extras plus a late return processing fee for each day/part of a day they are late. The processing fee for late return is 15.00 EUR (taxable).
One Way Rentals
If you want to pick up the vehicle and return it to a different location, an additional fee will be charged.
If you requested a one-way rental when booking, this fee will be included in your total rental price.
If you did not request a one-way rental when you booked and you want to return the vehicle to a different location in Croatia, you can expect to pay an additional fee of between EUR 65.00 and EUR 200.00. (taxable)
Returning the vehicle to a different location requires prior approval from us.
With prior agreement, it is allowed to pick up a vehicle in one country and return it to a location in another country, for a fee ranging from EUR 450.00 to EUR 5,000.00 (taxable)
If you return the vehicle to a different location without having arranged a one-way rental in advance, a one-way fee will be charged based on the 'pay at location' rates applicable on the day of return.
If the vehicle is returned to a location different from the one agreed as specified at check-out and stated in the Rental Agreement, an amended return fee of EUR 55.20 (taxable) will be charged to cover additional fleet relocation costs.
If the vehicle is returned to another location without prior notice to the original rental station, Rental Viribus d.o.o. reserves the right to take legal action against the current user of the vehicle.
Rental Options
Car seats
We offer both baby and child seats:
Baby seats are suitable for children from birth up to 12 months old, weighing up to 13 kg.
Child seats are suitable for children aged 4 to 11 years, weighing between 15 and 36 kg.

Please note that it is your responsibility to install the seat correctly and ensure it is securely fitted before driving.
The rental fee ranges from EUR 7.20 to EUR 10.80 per day (including tax). For rentals longer than 10 days (up to 28 days), the fee is capped at 10 days.
In case of loss, theft, or damage to the seat, you are responsible for the replacement cost unless the incident was not your fault or that of your passengers or additional drivers.
Returns
All customers must return the vehicle and any optional extras at the time/date and location stated in their rental agreement. If the customer believes they will be late, it is in their best interests to request an extension from us, not later than 12 hours before due time for return.
If the customer is late in returning their vehicle, they must pay for an extra day's rental for the vehicle and any optional extras plus a late return processing fee for each day/part of a day they are late.
The late return processing fee is EUR 15.00. (taxable)

There is a mandatory cross border fee of EUR 76.00 (taxable) for the countries of Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Cross Border Fee within the EU countries (including Switzerland and UK) is applicable in amount of EUR 40.00. (taxable)
You are not allowed to use the vehicle in:

The customer is fully responsible for all costs related to toll roads, bridge tolls, vignettes, and similar charges. Failure to pay these fees before using the relevant roads or bridges will result in a fine being imposed.
Along with the cross-border fee payment, the customer is also fully responsible for all costs related to toll roads, bridge tolls, vignettes, and similar charges.
Please note that if you are permitted to take the vehicle outside of Croatia, it is your responsibility to make sure you comply with legal requirements applicable in the relevant country/countries you travel in.
